Alfa Romeo's new electric vehicle, the Milano, is the brand's first subcompact SUV. This sleek vehicle not only presents a fresh design for the esteemed Italian automaker but also targets the compact SUV segment in Europe. The Milano offers both hybrid and all-electric versions, catering to diverse consumer preferences. The flagship Veloce trim is at the forefront, poised to claim the title of the most dynamic model in its fiercely competitive category. As an urban-centric crossover, it follows in the footsteps of Alfa Romeo's iconic Giulietta and Mito hatchbacks, drawing inspiration from the city of its origin by bearing the name "Milano."

Alfa Romeo Milano: Design

Extended matrix LED headlights and sleek intakes adorn the front end of the vehicle, connected by sleek black trim. The front-end design seamlessly integrates with the revised scudetto grille of the electric model, though it is partly concealed. The front bumper features large intakes and an integrated splitter, drawing inspiration from the design language of the acclaimed Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio versions.

Moving to the side profile, observers can notice a more angular aesthetic, with two distinct creases accentuating the car's muscular rear shoulders. One crease runs lower along the body, while the other sits higher, sweeping over the rear wheel arch. Unless one opts for performance variants, the standard wheels measure 18 inches in diameter.

Notable features at the rear include the iconic Alfa Romeo script badging, a gracefully swept-up tail, and a unified light fixture housing a subtle LED signature.

The interior features a modern 10.25-inch TFT display, showcasing the distinctive "Cannochiale" design inspired by the iconic emblems of the brand. Peugeot's infotainment system seamlessly integrates Alfa Romeo colours and typefaces, blending style with functionality. Across all trim levels, luxury embraces standard leather upholstery and the option of Spiga vinyl or fabric seats, while the sports package enhances the experience with Alcantara-clad Sabelt seats, merging comfort with performance.

Alfa Romeo Milano: Powertrain

Alfa Romeo's first electric vehicle comes in two versions: the Elettrica and the Veloce, equipped with a 54 kWh battery. The Elettrica has a single motor, delivering 153bhp and a WLTP cycle range of 410km.

The Veloce stands out with its self-locking differential, upgraded suspension, larger brakes, and 20-inch wheels with high-performance tyres. With an additional 237bhp power boost, it becomes the top choice. Both versions benefit from rapid charging with 100 kW DC fast chargers, enabling a quick 30-minute charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent capacity. The Alfa Romeo Milano EV will compete with the MINI Aceman and Volvo EX30.

This electric vehicle is based on Stellantis' e-CMP platform. In the future, Alfa Romeo will expand its lineup with the Milano Ibrida in 2025. This hybrid version combines a turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol engine generating 134bhp with a seamlessly integrated 48-volt electric motor, offering dynamic power distribution to enhance versatility.
