Renault dropped a bombshell yesterday by launching the Kwid in India at an introductory price tag of Rs 2.56 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The figure is far lower than the 3-4 lakh range quoted by the company earlier this year.

The Kwid is based on Renault-Nissan’s new CMA platform, with its SUV-like stance being the major talking point. It is powered by an 800cc, petrol engine that develops a modest output of 54 PS and 72 Nm of torque. It is the most fuel efficient petrol car in the country with a claimed mileage of 25.17 km/l.

Inside, the Kwid is equipped with a segment first 7-inch touchscreen with GPS navigation system. A single-DIN audio system is also present to satisfy the entertainment needs of the owner.

We compare all the variants of the Renault Kwid to evaluate its bang for buck

Standard

Ex-showroom, Delhi price - Rs 2,56,968

The base trim of the Kwid comes with Moon Grey coloured upholstery, two can holders in the front console, spare wheel, two years corrosion protection and an in-built heater.

RXE

Ex-showroom, Delhi price - Rs 2,88,960

The RXE variant adds a much needed air-conditioner, engine immobilizer, sunvisor on the passenger side and foldable backrest on rear seats. A single DIN music system with two front speakers are optional.

RXL

Ex-showroom, Delhi price - Rs 3,11,664

As we move up the ladder, the feature list keeps on increasing. The RXL variant comes with body coloured bumpers, half-sized black decals on doors, multi-spoke wheel cover, and premium contoured front seats. Further, this trim comes with power steering, automatic cabin on/off lights, and a standard single DIN stereo system with Bluetooth connectivity.

RXT

Ex-showroom, Delhi price Rs 3,44,131

The top-end variant, as expected, is loaded with plenty of features. You get front fog lamps, full-sized door decals and a dual tone dashboard. Chrome makes its appearance in the air-conditioning knobs as well as side AC vents. Front power windows also come as standard and so does central locking with keyless entry. On the safety front, driver airbag comes as optional.
