Ford India discontinues Figo and Classic models with the arrival of new generation models, steps out of mid-size sedan segment by pulling the plug on the Fiesta

Ford India has pulled the plug on its popular Figo hatchback, the Classic sedan and the Fiesta mid-size sedan. While the move to discontinue the Figo and the Classic are understandable what is a bit amusing is the fact the Ford will be completely stepping away from the mid-size sedan segment by discontinuing the Fiesta. Although, the limited sales figures of the Fiesta on a month on month basis does let it down. The quirky rear-end profile of the Fiesta never really worked with Indian buyers ever since the car made it here. And that notion stuck on with Indian buyers despite the launch of a face-lift model.

The newer Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz are the prime players in the mid-size sedan and even the Hyundai Verna has taken a beating on the sales front. The Fiesta then was having a tough time on its own right. In the foreseeable future, Ford India does not have a replacement model for the Fiesta.

The story is different for the Figo and the Classic though as they are being replaced by new generation models that are more modern in every right. Ford has already launched the new Figo Aspire compact sedan that packs in segment first six-airbags and offers front airbags as standard across all variants. The new Ford Figo Aspire is priced between Rs. 4.90 lakh to Rs. 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). In comparison, the Ford Classic was priced between Rs. 5.06 lakh to Rs. 7.68 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

As for the Figo, the launch of the new model is right around the corner ahead of the festive season. The new Ford Figo hatchback too is will offer more than the outgoing model which caught on rather well with Indian buyers here. The Figo badge will get the new model some way with Indian buyers and considering the overall improvement over its predecessor, expect the new Ford Figo to do well in our market. The outgoing Figo was priced between Rs. 4.14 lakh to Rs. 6.36 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Expect the new model to be priced along the same lines.
