Hyundai Motor is getting ready to launch the Exter SUV in the Indian market in coming weeks. The automaker has been teasing a number of the SUV's characteristics in advance of its release, including its ability to compete with the Tata Punch and other vehicles in its segment. For a deposit of Rs 11,000, prospective buyers can book the SUV at any verified dealer or on the company's website. Recently, the automaker released some information about the SUV's features. Hyundai has recently teased the inclusion of a small electric sunroof in the Exter SUV. Some of its competitors, such as the Punch SUV and the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, lack this feature. Both a CNG fuel option and a 1.2-litre inline four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine have been confirmed for the new model.

Hyundai Exter: Features

HMIL has said that the forthcoming Exter would have many segment-first innovations, such as a Smart Electric Sunroof and a Dash Cam with Dual Camera. The Dual-Camera dashcam will soon be available, with both a front and back camera, an LCD display of 5.84 cm (2.31 inches), Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connection via a smartphone app, and a variety of recording modes. Hyundai has also announced that this dashcam would be able to record in Full HD video resolution and snap photos with both front and rear-facing cameras.

Hyundai Exter: Design

Although Hyundai has teased the Exter, its final design has already been exposed in spy photos. It has a square form with a split headlight configuration, an upturned nose, and a tailboard with a slanted back window.

Hyundai's smallest SUV has strong cladding all around and rounded slightly flared wheel arches. There are two-tone paint choices that create the illusion of a floating roof, as well as elegant dual-tone alloy wheels, roof rails, and a textured treatment for the C-pillar. Hyundai has not yet revealed any information on the Exter's cabin.

Hyundai Exter: Engine

A 1.2-litre petrol engine and a compressed natural gas (CNG) alternative are coming to the Exter. The petrol model offers a choice between a five-speed manual and an AMT automatic transmission, whereas the CNG model is only available with a manual gearbox. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and the Hyundai Aura are both built on the same basis as the Exter.

The Exter will have five different trim levels: the base EX, the mid-range S, the high-end SX, and the optional SX(O) Connect. Six airbags are standard on all models, while higher trims include amenities like a small sunroof and rear camera.

Hyundai Exter rivals in India

The Tata Punch and the Citroen C3 are two of the Exter's main competitors. While the Exter's pricing is yet to be revealed, one can be certain that the small SUV will have more standard conveniences and safety systems than its competitors.
