JLR's classic car restoration business gets a new home.

Jaguar and Land Rover (JLR) has a new home in Coventry, England. Costing the British firm upwards of £7 million (approximately Rs. 57.5 crore), this new facility will not house your everyday XFs and Discoverys . No, not even the gorgeous F-type gets to be here.

Instead, the classic car aficionados in the U.K. have a reason to rejoice. JLR’s new home is for Classic Works, which is aimed at restoring and selling vintage vehicles from the two brands. The company has been operating its classic car restoration business since 2016 from its Lode Lane plant in Solihull, but now the business has a dedicated new home.

The new place has been inaugurated on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Le Mans 24-hour race – an occasion where Jaguar had a history of domination, scoring first, second, fourth and sixth places.

Classic works will also undertake the duty of improving old cars on commission basis. All JLR vehicles which are out of production for 10 years or more come under Classic Works’ umbrella, where the firm takes care of restoration and spares.

In the past, JLR’s Classic car business has surged, and even before the opening of this new facility, the brand had limited production run of the classic Jaguar E-types. With the new HQ in operation, the brand aims to extend the program to the likes of other classic JLRs.

He said, “In this fantastic new facility we will offer the opportunity for owners and prospective customers to meet with us, review and select the cars or services that meet their personal requirements and then establish a close relationship with Jaguar Land Rover Classic throughout the purchase process and beyond.”

Presently, their priority restoration targets are – Land Rover Series II and IIA, Discover 1 & Range Rover P38A, Jaguar XJ-S, XK8 & XK-R.
