Jeep India has decided to kick-start the BS6 model upgrade for the Compass by launching the much awaited standard specification diesel automatic model for its popular premium crossover SUV. Until now, the only diesel automatic Compass you could buy was the rather expensive Trailhawk model, but with the launch of the standard spec diesel automatic models, the Compass diesel automatic has become more affordable. Especially, considering the fact that it is available in two variants,  the Longitude variant as well as the top-of-the-line Limited Plus variant. What’s more, both variants are offered with all-wheel drive.

The new Compass diesel automatic continues to be powered by the 2.0 litre turbodiesel engine which now meets BS6 regulations. Its peak power and torque figures are rated at 170bhp @ 3,750rpm and 350Nm @ 1,500-2,500rpm. The engine, of course, sends its power to the wheels via a nine-speed torque converter automatic gearbox sourced from transmission experts ZF.

The Jeep Compass Longitude diesel automatic is priced at Rs. 21.96 lakh while the Compass Limited Plus diesel automatic retails at Rs. 24.99 lakh, ex-showroom India.

In terms of equipment and feature highlights, the new Compass Longitude diesel automatic comes with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system which brings with it a rearview camera, dual-zone climate control, cruise control and keyless entry and engine stop/start. Like the manual versions, this automatic Longitude variant continues to be offered with 17-inch alloy wheels, hill start assists, traction control, stability control, electric handbrake, disc brakes on all four corners along with ABS and airbags of course. The Jeep SelecTerrain AWD system also continues to offer 4 drive modes - Auto, Sand, Mud and Snow.

Equipment highlights for the top-end diesel automatic Jeep Compass Limited Plus include a 8.4-inch UConnect Infotainment system, a dual-panel sunroof, automatic headlamps and wipers, electrochromic IRVM, an electronically adjustable driver’s seat and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Commenting on the range expansion, Dr. Partha Datta – President and Managing Director, FCA India said, “We are strengthening and expanding the Jeep Compass range with the introduction of four diesel automatic variants, of which, the base and top-end variant will available to consumers right away. Both variants offer more equipment, boosting the value-for-money proposition for the customer which we believe will increase our share in the segment. This roll-out has also given us the opportunity to offer our locally-made BSVI-compliant 2.0-litre turbo-diesel powertrain to consumers much before the statutory deadline.”
