Mercedes-AMG plans to change the electric vehicle landscape in 2025 with the launch of its first high-performance electric car, the AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV. This new model is an industry first because it is the first to use the state-of-the-art AMG.EA electric car platform. Created in-house by Mercedes' electric mobility performance division, this platform marks a paradigm shift in electric vehicle design and performance. Immediately noticeable, the AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV isn't your average electric car. It's aiming to be the most intimidating AMG model ever. This next addition is a performance machine in the making, as opposed to the 53-badged sports saloons that AMG has previously made by fine-tuning the Mercedes EQE and EQS models.

New Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Electric: Design

Mercedes AMG Vision 2025 Concept 1

By revealing the long-awaited Mercedes AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV, the automaker has shown its dedication to maintaining the classic, low-slung profile of its ICE-era forebears. Mercedes has revealed intriguing details regarding the electric saloon's design, which draws inspiration from the motorsport-themed Vision 2025 concept that was unveiled at the esteemed 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The electric version will have a number of interesting features, such as a light-up grille, a new take on headlight design, a modern star emblem on the bonnet, a retractable spoiler, flush door handles that blend in, and a split rear window. While honouring the brand's history, these design elements also represent a daring move towards fusing modern electric performance with classic good looks.

New Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Electric: Interior

The cabin design of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Coupe EV will feature a visually impressive interior, highlighted by a wide high-definition screen that spans the entire width of the car. This design aligns with the aesthetic principles observed in other Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Although originally characterised as a vehicle with seating for four people, future versions may incorporate an extra seat in the back to accommodate more passengers.

New Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door Electric: Powertrain

The innovative electric motor technology developed by Yasa, a British company that Mercedes acquired in 2021, is the main reason for this outstanding performance. Known for its axial-flux electric motors, Yasa's technology is known for its small size, exceptional efficiency, and high power density. The fact that a Yasa motor designed for Mercedes production vehicles can produce 486bhp and 800 Newton-meters of torque in such a little package is a tribute to their inventiveness.

These power figures could experience a significant increase, possibly reaching the expected 1,000bhp and 1,300Nm, thanks to the utilisation of a twin-motor system, which would establish a new benchmark for high-performance electric propulsion.
