We can date the success of Skoda back to 2002 when they first introduced India to a sedan called Octavia. People to-date have not forgotten the European car maker's creation, which outclassed every other product in the rather no-competition zone of the C-segment about 10 years ago. With class-leading build quality, refinded diesel engine and stellar performance, the Octavia set the bar high for the other manufacturers. Skoda was indeed overwhelmed by the response they got from India, and that is more than enough reason for them to bring the 3rd generation of the Octavia to its countless fans in India.

The new Octavia will be based on the VW groups MQB platform and is 90 mm longer and 45 mm wider than the second-generation Octavia which is sold as the Laura in India. The wheelbase too has grown by 108 mm, and that does solve the rear seat space problem faced by the earlier generation, thus ensuring that you get space which is unmatched by cars costing even twice as much. Expected with the 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine and the 1.8 litre & 1,4 litre petrol engines, the Octavia will be equipped with both manual and DSG automatic transmissions.

The improvements to the platform are also combined with revised interiors which feature upgraded materials and higher quality plastics. The interior design is also upgraded, with the changes being more evolutionary than revolutionary. It is also expected to come better equipped as standard than the current car.

Sporting Skoda’s latest design language, the gorgeous looking Octavia will be priced below the current Laura and this promises to shake up the competition that already exists in that segment, as it plans to go against the VW Jetta and even the Chevrolet Cruze.
