Volkswagen has unveiled the Golf GTI Edition 50, a special-edition hot hatch that marks 50 years since the iconic GTI badge first appeared in 1975. Although the official golden jubilee falls in 2026, Volkswagen has revealed full details ahead of time, with production starting by the end of 2025 and deliveries set for early 2026. Under the bonnet sits a retuned 2.0-litre turbocharged engine shared with the Clubsport, but now uprated to deliver 321bhp and 420 Nm of torque. That’s more power and torque figures than the Clubsport, helping the car sprint from 0-100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds using a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The Edition 50 recently became the fastest Volkswagen production car to lap the Nurburgring Nordschleife, clocking a time of 7:46.13. This result showcases gains in power delivery, suspension, and aerodynamics.
Performance lovers can go a step further with the optional GTI-Performance package. This includes a further lowered ride height (down 20 mm from the regular Golf), upgraded adaptive chassis software, and 19-inch forged Warmenau wheels shod in sticky Bridgestone semi-slicks. It also brings an Akrapovic titanium exhaust that shaves off 11 kg and enhances the soundtrack.
Visually, the Edition 50 gets a dose of unique styling. Black roof panels, mirror caps, and exhaust tips contrast with special badging. Inside, Racing Green seat stripes, red seatbelts, and bespoke sill plates add to the sporty vibe.
