Volkswagen Taigun GT Plus Sport, GT Line Unveiled in India; Get All-black Interior and More

At its 2024 annual brand conference in India, German automaker Volkswagen revealed a range of products, like the Taigun GT Plus Sport, the GT Line, and the ID.4 EV. These new variants of existing models feature only cosmetic changes and will be available with two engine and transmission options each. These models are part of the brand's new strategy to establish itself as a premium brand in the domestic market. The firm has already opened its order books for the Taigun GT Plus Sport and GT Line variants today. However, the launch date for the models has not been officially announced by the company yet. With the addition of the Taigun GT Plus Sport and GT Line, the SUV's variant line-up has been refreshed in our country. As a result, the Taigun will now be offered in three main trim levels: Sport, Chrome, and GT Edge. As far as the Edge range is concerned, the available paint jobs include Black and Matte options.

The exterior features of the Taigun GT Plus Sport include dark chrome door handles, red brake callipers, smoked LED headlamps, a carbon steel grey roof, and red GT branding on the grille, fender, and rear profile. Along with a chrome delete, The SUV now sports gloss black alloy wheels, a gloss black front grille, a diffuser, wing mirrors, and fender badges. In contrast, the GT Line variant has the same chrome delete on the outside but a GT Line emblem on the doors in place of the red brake callipers and a red GT badge on the grille. It comes with new 17-inch alloy wheels, along with several black-finished components.

The Volkswagen Taigun GT Plus Sport variant will be equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine, while the Taigun GT Line variant will feature a 1.0-litre TSI unit. The former produces 148bhp of maximum power and 250Nm of max torque, whereas the latter produces 113bhp and 178Nm of max torque. For transmission, both engines are mated to a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. Furthermore, both engines also come with an automatic transmission – the 1.5-litre EVO gets a seven-speed DSG unit, while the 1.0-litre TSI has a six-speed torque converter.

The cabin features elements such as aluminium pedals, a black headliner, black leatherette upholstery with red stitching, and GT badging on the front headrests, along with a dashboard finished in gloss black. Moreover, other features include a blacked-out roof lamp housing, sun visors, and a Sports steering wheel with red stitching.

Volkswagen India: Future Plans

The manufacturer also showcased the concept version of the Virtus GT Plus at the event and stressed that it is committed to strengthening its network. By the end of 2024, Volkswagen hopes to expand the network of its sales dealerships to 230 – it was 193 in 2023. Additionally, the number of service touchpoints will expand from 142 to 150. The brand also aims to establish its presence in 25 additional locations by the end of 2024, bringing the total to 170.
