Xiaomi, the well-known Chinese tech company known for making smartphones, has unveiled its first electric vehicle, the SU7, indicating its bold ambition to become one of the top automakers in the world. Presented at the 'EV Technology Launch' event, the electric car is the first of five models that will form Xiaomi's future electric vehicle (EV) portfolio. Xiaomi is expected to announce the SU7's price ahead of its 2024 Chinese launch. The SU7's low drag coefficient of 0.195 stands out; however, the car's clean appearance has garnered a lot of attention as well. An important figure in Xiaomi's SU7 project is an ex-Mercedes-Benz designer best known for their work on the EQXX concept, which was lauded for its amazing 1,000km range, thanks to its aerodynamic efficiency.

Xiaomi SU7: Design

Xiaomi SU7 Side

The SU7's design takes cues from Tesla's Model 3, its main competitor in the market. The smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has created a car with teardrop-shaped LED headlights, a front bumper air dam with an aerodynamic design, and a tapering bonnet. The sleekly sloping roofline, the integrated LED taillights, the strategically located camera on the B pillar, and the opportunity to select between 19- and 20-inch wheels are other visual components that contribute to its aesthetic appeal.

An active rear wing and modern Lidar technology, hidden behind the front windscreen, are available on higher-spec models for improved driving experience. These advanced features boost the SU7's performance and demonstrate Xiaomi's focus on cracking the premium vehicle segment.

Xiaomi SU7: Powertrain

The Xiaomi SU7 is powered by the 'Super Motor V6S', reaching 21,000rpm and delivering 295bhp with 400Nm of torque. The single-motor version can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 5.28 seconds, reaching a top speed of 210km/h.

Xiaomi SU7 Rear

By utilising cell-to-body integration, the car's battery architecture becomes an integral part of the vehicle, which allows for more interior space. The base SU7 model has a 73.6 kWh pack and an architecture of 400 volts, while the top-of-the-line SU7 Max has an 800-volt architecture and a 101 kWh pack.
