Hector, Gloster and More Help MG Register 28% Sales Growth in March 2023

MG Motor India reported its highest-ever monthly sales of 6,051 units in March 2023 as compared to the 4,721 units it sold in the corresponding month last year. It is to be noted that the MG Hector and its variants were the major contributors to the company's sales growth.

MG Motor India has announced a 28 per cent year-on-year jump in its retail sales of passenger vehicles in March this year. According to some reports, the company had its highest-ever monthly sales of 6,051 units last month as compared to the 4,721 units it sold in the corresponding month last year. In terms of month-on-month growth, the automobile manufacturer showed a growth of 44.31 per cent in March 2023 as compared to February 2023. The sales figures for February 2023 stood at 4,193, while January 2023 sales were reported at 4,114 units. It is to be noted that the MG Hector and its variants were the major contributors to the company's sales growth. Besides, the positive performance of the Gloster also provided a significant boost to its sales, since its launch in 2020.

Sales Performance in March 2023: Here's what the company says

The strengthening of semiconductor supplies through various localisation initiatives and the easing of logistical obstacles have contributed to achieving these sales numbers. This momentum is expected to sustain and improve in the near future as well, according to a statement issued by the company. 

"The Next-Gen MG Hector, India’s first internet SUV maintains its strong uptake in the market and has recorded its second-highest lifetime sales, since its launch, in the month of March. Similarly, the ZS EV, India’s first pure electric Internet SUV, has been registering good traction across market segments", said Rakesh Sidana, Senior Director – Sales, MG Motor India. However, the sales numbers for the MG Astor remained subdued. 

MG Comet Smart EV Launch: What we know so far

Meanwhile, the company is preparing to launch its brand-new Comet electric car in the home market next month. The two-door EV measures 2.9 metres in length and will be the smallest car in the country, even more, compact than the Tata Nano. With a 17.3kWh battery pack, the base model could have a stated 200-kilometre range. While the top-spec model is expected to have a claimed range of about 300 kilometre after a single charge, with a 26.7kWh battery pack.

We anticipate the new MG Comet EV to be priced around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). It will lock horns with the likes of the Tata Tiago EV and the Citroen eC3.
