The Volkswagen Virtus locks horns with the Hyundai Verna, Honda City, and the Skoda Slavia in India. It is priced between Rs 11.56 lakh and Rs 19.40 lakh (both, ex-showroom).

The Volkswagen Virtus has completed three years in India since its launch on June 9, 2022. Despite the growing demand for SUVs, the Virtus has remained strong in the premium sedan segment. It is well-known for its bold design, solid performance, and German build quality, and has gained a steady fan base across the market. Volkswagen reports that the Virtus holds a 32% market share in the premium sedan segment so far in 2025. It has also grown by 7% compared to the same period last year. With strong sales and customer trust, the Virtus was the highest-selling premium sedan in both 2024 and 2025.

The powertrains of the Volkswagen Virtus are built for both city commutes and highway performance. The smaller 1.0-litre TSI engine makes 114bhp at 5,000rpm-5,500rpm and 178Nm at 1,750rpm-4,500rpm. On the other hand, the 1.5-litre TSI unit churns out a maximum power output of 148bhp at 5,000rpm-6,000rpm and 250Nm at 1,600rpm-3,500rpm.
The 1.0-litre TSI variant of the Virtus comes with the choice of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Meanwhile, the more powerful 1.5-litre TSI version is available with either a 6-speed manual or a quicker-shifting 7-speed DSG automatic.

The Virtus comes equipped with 6 airbags as standard across all variants, along with key features like Electronic Stability Control (ESC), ISOFIX mounts for child seats, and hill hold assist. It also includes rain-sensing wipers and a rear parking camera. It maintains a strong reputation with a 5-star crash safety rating from Global NCAP.
