Launched at an introductory that will remain until the end of June

Aprilia has introduced two new motorcycles in the Indian market today – the Dorsoduro 900 and the Shiver 900, at an introductory price of Rs 12.50 lakhs and Rs 11.99 lakhs respectively. Interested buyers can purchase both the motorcycles at this introductory price till 30th June, subsequent to which they will carry a sticker price of Rs 13.83 lakhs and Rs 13.32 lakhs respectively. All prices ex-showroom Pune. Both these bikes will be on sale at Piaggio Motoplex outlets in Pune, Chennai, Bangaluru, Kochi and Hyderabad.

The Aprilia Shiver 900 is a naked street fighter that has been fitted with a new 900cc V-twin unit that is good for 92.5bhp and 90Nm. While the Shiver 900 is the first time the moniker makes its way to India, globally it is a replacement to the old Shiver 750. Thanks to a chiseled tank, beefier tank extensions, and a larger exhaust, the Shiver 900 feels muscular. In terms of equipment, the Shiver 900 comes with a single-mode switchable traction control. It also comes fitted with a 4.3-inch TFT instrument console that is also seen on the RSV4 and the Tuono 1100 V4. Suspension duties are performed by 41mm Kayaba unit up front and a side-mounted monoshock at the back. The Shiver 900 comes gets dual 320mm discs up front aided by a four-piston calliper and a single 240mm disc at the back with a single piston calliper. ABS comes as a standard fitment.

The Dorsoduro 900, on the other hand, also comes with the same engine as the Shiver 900 with identical power and torque figures. The Dorsoduro 900 comes with ride-by-wire which essentially gives the rider three-mode options to choose from – Sport, Touring, and Rain. Just like the Shiver, the Dorsoduro also comes fitted with a TFT screen instead of a conventional instrumentation. ABS comes as a standard fitment.

Speaking about the launch, Stefano Pelle, CEO and Managing Director, Piaggio Vehicles Private Limited (India) said, “It is our constant effort at Piaggio Group to make the Aprilia brand more accessible to the patrons in the country, with these superbikes-  the Aprilia Shiver and Dorsoduro- we plan to appeal to the Aprilia enthusiast. These superbikes reflect the racing heritage of the brand and the riding experience is unmatched by any other product in the similar category.”

In the Indian scenario, the Aprilia Shiver 900 will compete against the likes of the Kawasaki Z900, Ducati Monster 821 and the upcoming Triumph Street Triple 765. Meanwhile, the Aprilia Dorsoduro 900 will hold its own against the Ducati Hypermotard 939.
