A Mumbai-based brand is ready to enter a motorcycle segment that no other domestic manufacturer has ever thought of before.

A brand new motorcycle maker, Avantura Choppers, has announced its launch as the first and only chopper motorcycle brand from India.

Targeted at the premium segment, Avantura Chopper models are expected to be in the market by the end of 2017. Headquartered in Mumbai with a manufacturing plant close to the city, the company is at the concluding stages for the ARAI certification, to release India’s first-ever production Choppers in the market.

For those unaware with chopper motorcycles, it is a class of motorcycles that originated in the USA in the 1950s. Originally choppers were custom motorcycles featuring radically modified steering angles and lengthened forks for a stretched out appearance. Eventually, the chopper body-style evolved into a niche motorcycle segment. Choppers are often used in Hollywood movies, with The Ghost Rider’s motorcycle being a widely acknowledged example.

Coming back to Avantura Choppers, the Mumbai-based company claims to have bespoke design engineering and OEM partnerships with world-leading component manufacturers. The debut Avantura Choppers bike will sport a big 2,000cc V-Twin engine, which is made by S&S, USA. This doesn't only make Avantura Choppers the first Indian chopper brand, but also the first production domestic brand to target the extreme high-end motorcycle market.

The company has partially revealed its debut model (seen in the image above), and it looks like nothing else on Indian roads. The slim tank, those long handlebars, and that big exposed V-twin engine - all ensure that Avantura Choppers bikes will definitely grab a lot of eyeballs in India.

Obviously, do not expect Avantura Choppers bikes to be affordable. The company is targeting a 7 - 8 per cent share of the 1,600cc and above motorcycle market in India, which the company claims is estimated to touch 15,000 units by 2022.

Speaking about the launch of the brand, Gaurav Aggarwal, the Founder of Avantura Choppers said, “The brand, ‘Avantura Choppers’ symbolizes the premium quality and supreme power that is a chopper motorcycle. With that in mind, we have produced these masterpieces for riding connoisseurs by curating the entire experience. And the fact that we’re the first Indian company in the space, adds challenge to the pride”.
