2024 Porsche 911 ST Likely to be Unveiled on June 8

The new Porsche will take cues from the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring, adding to the ever-expanding 911 family. "ST" suffix was last used for lightweight racing vehicles in the early 1970s, so this Zuffenhausen vehicle would not be the first to utilise it.

The Porsche 911 lineup is always looking for new opportunities to fill. With so many iterations of the Porsche 911 now in production, it seems certain that the company will release even another version in the near future. The 911 ST is scheduled to join the lineup later this year before the flagship GT2 RS comes in late 2025 or early 2026. The new ST is based on the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring. Industry insiders claim that Porsche will unveil a new model on June 8 to commemorate the June 8, 1948 launch of the 356 "No.1" Roadster, the first car to carry the Porsche name. The 'ST' suffix was last used for lightweight racing cars in the early 1970s, thus this wouldn't be the first vehicle from Zuffenhausen to utilise it. There were very few genuine Porsche STs produced. They were specially designed racing cars with lightweight components. The fenders were flared so that the vehicle could have a wider track.

2024 Porsche 911ST: What to Expect?

Exterior
The new ST is based on the Porsche 911 GT3 Touring. Aside from the extra panel placed behind the front wheels, the front end appears unchanged. Something like this may be seen on the 911 GT3 RS prototypes, although in a tamer form. Similar to the newly released Sport Classic, this ST has a double-bubble roof.

It's a minor point, but the Porsche 911 shown here really has door pull handles. The same components may be seen in the GT3 RS spy photos. The standard GT3s are almost completely flush with the car's body.

The spokes on the wheels of this 911 are Y-shaped and are widely apart. They have big, drilled brake discs in the back. A black circle is visible through the back mesh of the engine cover. The 911 GT3 Touring's rear diffuser looks to be identical, down to the dual exhaust tips in the centre.

Engine
Based on the available data, it seems that the new 911 ST will use the engine from the GT3 Touring. If that's the case, the model's naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six engine will produce 502bhp and 469Nm of torque. The 911 ST is Porsche's next iteration of the Targa 4S Heritage design, and it's expected to be more lightweight thanks to the use of carbon fibre for the doors and roof.

2024 Porsche 911ST: Expected Sales

Special edition 911s always have a limited manufacturing run and a premium price tag to reflect their rarity. Porsche may have already sold out of the ST by the time it is officially introduced since there are always affluent people waiting to buy the latest and greatest vehicle to bear the Porsche badge.
