Mechanically, expect the next generation Jetta to be very similar to the current Skoda Octavia.

Volkswagen Canada has teased the upcoming new generation Jetta on its official website. The all-new Jetta is confirmed to debut at the 2018 North American International Auto show in January, 2018.

The teaser gives us a glimpse of the front-end of the new Jetta. The new car will feature a rather extended and bolder iteration of VW’s characteristic grille. The chin will also feature a more aggressive design versus the outgoing model.

Previously, a camouflaged test mule of the new Jetta was caught testing in Europe (pictured below). The new Jetta is expected to be longer and wider than the model it replaces, thus opening up more interior room. Underpinning the all-new Jetta will be VW’s modular MQB platform, which also does duty on various other vehicles within the Volkswagen Group.

In North America, the Jetta is an important model for VW, as it is positioned in the volume gaining segment there. The car will be powered by VW’s TSI range of petrol engines, while the TDI diesel option is not expected to make a comeback in North America after the infamous Dieselgate scandal.

The outgoing Volkswagen Jetta was launched in India in 2011, and discontinued earlier in 2017 due to plummeting sales. The car was powered by either a 1.4-litre TSI petrol, or a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. We can only comment on Jetta’s return to India once the new model goes official next year.
