The winter testing of the new BMW i7 all-electric luxury sedan has commenced. The sedan will soon make its global debut and we suspect that BMW India will launch the i7 sometime next year.

Earlier this year, Mercedes-Benz showcased the EQS which is essentially the new-generation all-electric S-Class. The German marquee will soon launch the same in India as the model has already been listed on Mercedes-Benz’ website.

BMW is following the same path with its newly teased i7 all-electric luxury sedan. As the name suggests, the i7 will be positioned under the 7-Series vertical and will feature an all-electric powertrain borrowed from the iX SUV. The BMW i7 will use the firms recently developed CLAR platform which also underpins the i4 Gran Coupe.

BMW has not revealed the powertrain details and specifications yet, but it is speculated that the i7 will feature a dual motor setup, similar to the one seen in the BMW iX SUV. The power figure is likely to be between 500bhp and 525bhp. The i7 will mostly break cover in multiple variants and the average single charge range is likely to be close to 500kms. The battery pack of the i7 is likely to be the same 105kWh unit as the iX xDrive 50. The charging time (11 hours) is likely to be the same as well.

The cabin is expected to be at par with the luxury sedan segment. Considering that the BMW i7 will be the firm's flagship electric sedan, the interior could offer an upmarket feel.

BMW I7 Front Three Quarter Static

Last year, BMW confirmed that the new 7-series will make its debut in petrol, diesel, hybrid and all-electric powertrains. So if this BMW i7 does not float your boat, there will soon be an I.C.E powered Bavarian luxury sedan. A thorough unveiling is likely to be scheduled for the first quarter of the next year. The new BMW i7 will be launched in India, but we cannot confirm a timeline so soon. For now, BMW is focusing on the launch of the iX electric-SUV which will take place on December 13.
