Fancied buying the world’s fastest production car in history? Well, you’re too late as Bugatti has sold last of its 450 Veyrons to a customer in the Middle East.
The 16-cylinder, 1200bhp Veyron made its debut in 2005 and left the world awestruck with its top speed. 10 years later, the last car is ready to be dispatched from Bugatti’s factory in Molsheim. Quite fittingly, it’s been named ‘La Finale’.
Despite a jaw dropping price of $2.6 million, Bugatti’s parent company Volkswagen lost close to $6 million per unit sold. The sole reason for developing this car was to show off VW’s design capabilities and not to increase its bank balance. That job is left to other companies within the group, most prominently Audi.
“In the Veyron, Bugatti has created an automobile icon and established itself as the world's most exclusive supercar brand,” said Bugatti President Wolfgang Dürheimer. “So far no other carmaker has managed to successfully market a product that stands for unique top-class technical performance and pure luxury in a comparable price/volume range. The Veyron is unique in many respects even ten years after its launch,”
A more powerful replacement of Veyron is expected in the near future. However, the company is yet to come up with any concrete plans regarding the same.
