Hot-blooded Skoda Octavia vRS is all set for a comeback!

Come August 30, 2017, Skoda will launch the much awaited Octavia vRS in India. The hot performance derivative of the saloon will be brought into the country as a CBU.

The powertrain of the Skoda Octavia vRS is the heart and soul of the car. Although it’s available in a choice between a petrol and diesel engine in global markets, we’re likely to get only the petrol derivative. However, you won’t see many complaining about that. The Octavia vRS petrol is powered by a 2.0-litre TFSI engine - regular Octavia gets a 1.8-litre TSI motor. The engine develops an impressive 227bhp of maximum power and 350Nm of twisting force. In Europe, the car’s available with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic. We’re likely to get the latter here, albeit, given the Octavia’s popularity among enthusiasts and engine tuning community, Skoda may launch the manual version as well, since a manual ‘box allows more room for aftermarket “improvements”.

That said, you don’t need to put any additional work since it the Octavia vRS is plenty fast as is. The automatic version can hit 0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds, while top speed will be electronically limited top speed of 250km/h! To rein in the extra firepower, the Octavia vRS comes with wider front and rear tracks while the ride height of the car has been lowered by 15mm. Apart from that, it also gets ‘Dynamic Chassis Control’ – a function that can alter the damping in three modes – Sport, Normal and Comfort. There’s also a ‘Performance Mode Select’ for steering and gearbox. It can be set in four modes – Normal, Eco, Sport or Individual.

Given the fact that the new Octavia vRS will be imported into the country, expect it to come with an inflated price-tag owing to high excise duties. The price-tag on the hot saloon should hover around Rs 30 lakh – Rs 35 lakh as a result.
