Porsche Vision 357 Speedster Electric Concept Debuts at the Goodwood Festival of Speed

To mark the occasion, the automakers in Zuffenhausen have designed a cutting-edge take on the classic roadster. Both the coupe and the gorgeous roadster have their origins in the 718 GT4 e-Performance, although the 718 Cayman GT4 RS served as the basis for the coupe and yes, it is electric.

Porsche took inspiration from its extensive lineup of classic cars to create yet another electric vehicle concept after the unveiling of the Vision 357 earlier this year. The Vision 357 Speedster drops the top on another famous Porsche design, the 356. The Vision 357 Speedster, which debuted at this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed, combines the retro lines of the 356 Speedster with the cutting-edge performance of the Porsche 718 GT4 e-Performance. Both the coupe and the gorgeous roadster have their origins in the 718 GT4 e-Performance, although the 718 Cayman GT4 RS served as the basis for the coupe. It borrows the chassis of the 718 GT4 Clubsport and modifies it to accommodate the electric motors and battery technology of the Mission R concept. The unique tonneau cover has "75" insignia, a homage to the original 356 model year.

Porsche Vision 357 Speedster Electric Concept: Design

The concept car's windscreen is low and short like that of a fast, drawing attention to the car's otherwise blocky silhouette. There is a tonneau cover over the right side of the vehicle, which was formerly standard on convertible sports cars. Because of the cleverly engineered carbon roll-over element behind the driver's seat, the headrest gives the impression of floating in limbo.

The Vision 357 Speedster sports a wraparound front hood and fender-mounted cameras in place of side mirrors. It rides on 20-inch magnesium center-lock wheels with carbon fibre hubcaps. The vehicle's third brake light is elegantly incorporated in the vertical rear vents, and holes in the body are provided for the headlights and taillights. Porsche went for a two-tone look by painting the outside Miami Blue, with Marble Grey and Grivelo Grey Metallic.

Everything inside is minimal and centred on the driver. The low-slung seating posture exudes the essence of sportiness. The monocoque itself serves as the CFRP seat shell. The driver is secured in place by a Miami Blue six-point seat belt and sits atop pads coated in Racetex. The instrument panel is a transparent panel that rests above the steering column. The racing steering wheel is the epitome of lightness, and the impact absorber gives the impression of floating in midair. For their part, the individual controls bring the external accent shade of Miami Blue back inside.

Carbon weave covers the whole dashboard. The Miami Blue straps in the top right corner serve as a makeshift glove box for your extras. In lieu of standard door handles, these ones are only cloth straps. This is a weight-saving feature common in the racing world.
