The engineers at Lexus - Toyota’s luxury arm - have managed to design and develop an actual hoverboard that operates on magnetic levitation.

The company has combined permanent magnets and liquid nitrogen controlled superconductors to achieve frictionless movement.

Mark Templin, Executive Vice President at Lexus International said; "At Lexus, we constantly challenge ourselves and our partners to push the boundaries of what is possible. That determination, combined with our passion and expertise for design and innovation, is what led us to take on the Hoverboard project. It’s the perfect example of the amazing things that can be achieved when you combine technology, design and imagination.”

As far as the design of the hoverboard goes, Lexus has used its signature spindle grille shape and materials found in its luxury cars, ranging from the high tech to natural bamboo.

The hoverboard is part of Lexus ‘Amazing in Motion’ campaign. Being a prototype, it is not for sale.
