The Furio marks the company’s debut into Intermediate Commercial Vehicles (ICV) segment

After working on it for four years, Mahindra Truck and Bus Division (MTBD) has now unveiled their new range of Intermediate Commercial Vehicle (ICV) trucks christened Furio. So far, the Chakan based commercial vehicle manufacturer did not have the presence in the ICV segment. The Furio now addresses the need for trucks with a load carrying capacity of 7.5 to 16 tonnes. The debut of the Furio makes Mahindra a full range player with vehicles ranging from three-wheelers to 49-tonne trucks.

Designed by Pininfarina, Mahindra claims that the Furio range has among the safest, most ergonomic and comfortable cabins. Prior to its official unveiling today, the trucks have been rigorously tested for over 17 lakh kilometres across various terrains in India. The Furio is based on a new chassis, cabin, and engine. While details of the engine are still scarce, Mahindra revealed that it will be powered by its light-weight MDI Tech motor. This low-friction powerplant also promises superior efficiency and high torque for ease of driving in various conditions.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd said, “With Pininfarina inspired design, the FURIO is set to be a game changer for us and perhaps for the industry, giving the new truck one of the safest, most ergonomic and comfortable cabins that will set new standards. I am confident that just like the BLAZO HCV Series, the FURIO range of ICVs will also set new benchmarks for performance, earnings and deliver better value to customers.”

Mahindra will produce the Furio truck at their facility in Chakan. The company has spent Rs 600 crores in the development of this truck range. Product conceptualisation started in 2014, with Mahindra interacting with more than 500 customers and 180 suppliers about their requirements. Mahindra will introduce four trucks as part of the Furio range – two will be launched in December and two more in 2019.
