The launch of the new-gen Baleno is right around the corner, but for now, Maruti Suzuki is celebrating the 1 million sales mark of the current-generation Baleno.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has breached the 10 lakh unit sale mark within a span of six years. The B+ segment hatchback made its debut back in October 2015 with the ‘Baleno’ nomenclature. For Maruti Suzuki, it was a risky move to christen a hatchback by the same name as its popular sedan from the past. However, the Baleno received more than a warm welcome, and the hatchback reached the one lakh sales milestone within a year.
The two lakh sales mark was achieved within the next eight months. In June 2018, Maruti Suzuki reported cumulative sales of four lakh units for the Baleno hatchback. Between 2018 and 2021, another four lakh Maruti Suzuki Balenos were sold domestically. This year, Maruti Suzuki sold one lakh units of the Baleno between March and November.
Speaking of the new milestone, Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, ‘Since its launch, Baleno has enjoyed unparalleled leadership in the premium hatchback segment. It has set new benchmarks in design, safety, and innovation. With a staggering market share of over 25 per cent, Baleno has led and redefined the premium hatchback segment.’
That being said, Maruti Suzuki is readying an all-new generation of the Baleno hatchback. The new Baleno will be based on an all-new platform, and we suspect that Maruti Suzuki will offer a more powerful dual-jet 1.2-litre N.A engine. However, there is no confirmation concerning the return of the Baleno RS, but it will be a good time to bring back the more athletic Baleno, as the market is warming up towards premium sporty hatchbacks such as the Hyundai i20 N-Line.
