Renault Lodgy Highlights
MPVs have always been known for their capacity to carry large families and a lot of luggage – and that makes them rather popular in a market like India, where customers seek space, comfort, practicality and efficiency. With a rather boxy design and an aggressive price, Renault Lodgy offers all that buyers in the segment are looking for.
The Lodgy's length is the first thing that gets your attention. At the front, the huge chrome grille has the Renault logo on it, and the headlamp design is rather neat and simple. The front bumper is curved, and adds to the width of the Lodgy. Along the side, the Lodgy is rather slab-sided and the subtly flared wheel arches look nice, while the lower portion of the doors get chrome strips. Also notice how virtually horizontal the roofline is; even the rear is quite flat, but the arrow-shaped tail lamps look distinctive.
The Renault Lodgy variants are as follows: STD, RXE, RXL and RXZ. Features include roof-mounted AC vents, tilt-adjust steering, electrically adjustable ORVMs, 12-volt charging sockets, rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, a touchscreen unit with USB and aux inputs and satellite navigation. On the safety front, it comes equipped with ABS with EBD and brake assist, engine immobiliser and driver door ajar warning. A brief look in the brochure suggests comparatively lesser equipment for Renault Lodgy on-road price in comparison to other MPVs.
Stepping into the Lodgy is easy. The cabin features quite a lot of details also seen on the Duster – like the dials, steering wheel and the air-con vents. Even the front seats look familiar, but the quilted and perforated leather upholstery looks classy. The dashboard gets a beige-and-brown finish, while the centre console gets a piano-black theme with silver accents. Every row gets two bottle holders and a 12V charging socket. There are lots of usable spaces and recesses in the cabin. The seats in the second row are comfortable and can be had as either captain seats or a full bench. Legroom is aplenty. And access to the third row would need the second-row seats to be flipped down. Thankfully, there is sufficient room for occupants in this row. With all the seats up, there is 210 litres of boot space.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Renault Lodgy is powered by a K9K 1.5-litre diesel engine available in two states of tune: an 84bhp motor that makes 200Nm of torque and a 108bhp motor that makes 245Nm of torque. Paired to both engines is a 6-speed manual transmission. The Lodgy feels pretty powerful on the highway, while power delivery is smooth. There is some turbo lag, but the engine is quite free-revving. On bumpy roads, the Lodgy feels pliant, taking bumps in its stride. The Renault Lodgy new model feels quite confident around corners, and in a straight line, stays planted.
The Renault Lodgy's ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure is rated at 19.98kmpl for the 108bhp diesel model and 21.04kmpl for the 84bhp diesel model.
