Audi RS5 Highlights
Audi's RS5 has been around since 2010, and came with two doors less, a powerful 4.2-litre V8 engine, and rear seats best reserved for children. The 2018 RS5 comes with a smaller V6 engine but still continues to pack a punch, sending power to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. It is also very fast in a straight line, corners with great levels of grip and comes across as a very refined, practical and comfortable car. It's based on the A5, and looks particularly sharp in its second-generation avatar. Its specifications may not be at par or as exciting as the earlier V8 engine, but being short on two cylinders doesn't mean it's lost its charm. As expected by the Audi RS5 price and segment, it also comes loaded with equipment and a well-designed interior.
The RS5 looks properly menacing with those typical 'RS' details on it. At the front, it gets a large gloss-black grille with 'quattro' embossed below it. Then there are those smoked-out headlamps that stand out, along with the huge air ducts on the bumper. Along the side, you'll find 20-inch alloy wheels in chrome and a sharp crease that runs across the sides. At the rear too, the tail lights are smoked-out and get a tapered look. Also attractive are those oval exhaust pipes.
The Audi RS5 variants are as follows: RS5 Coupe. Features include climate control, rear view camera, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, navigation, adaptive cruise control, Alcantara leather upholstery, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multi-function flat-bottom steering, a 7-inch driver information display, Audi's Virtual Cockpit, automatic headlamps, sunroof, rain sensing wipers, steering mounted audio controls, and a memory function for the driver's seat. On the safety front, it is equipped with hill hold assist, 6 airbags, traction control, EBD and Park Assist.
Inside the RS5, the dashboard looks identical to the A5's, and there's flat-bottom steering as well. The Virtual Cockpit digital dials are ahead of the driver and you get an MMI infotainment system. The well bolstered front seats look nice too, and are available with a massage function and various seat adjustments. While the front seats are nice and comfortable, the rear bench is slightly limited in terms of legroom. The fit and finish of everything is top notch, and headroom is more than sufficient for occupants seated at the back.
Engine Specifications & Performance
The Audi RS5 is powered by a 2.9-litre, twin-turbo V6 engine that makes 444bhp and 600Nm of torque and is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The engine is very refined, and it builds up speed rather effortlessly. While it is very quick in Comfort mode, Dynamic mode takes the game further. The transmission is super-fast and very responsive, and the V6 sounds great too. Thanks to the all-wheel-drive system, there's a lot of grip provided and the car's a lot more enthusiastic to change direction than the car it replaces. The steering too offers decent feedback. In Dynamic mode, the noise from the exhaust gets louder, and the steering gets a little heavy, which is a good thing. Thanks to the Dynamic Ride Control adaptive dampers, the ride is smooth and comfortable in Comfort mode, while in Dynamic mode, it gets a bit firm. The performance from this engine seems adequate and right for the Audi RS5 on-road price.
The Audi RS5 new model ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure is rated at 7.7kmpl for the sole petrol model.
