About Tata Cars
Tata Motors Limited was once known as TELCO. It began production of commercial vehicles in 1954, after having collaborated with Daimler-Benz AG. However, the partnership came to an end in 1969. With the launch of the Tata Mobile in 1988, Tata Motors made its foray into the passenger vehicle space. Tata later launched the Sierra in 1991, followed by India’s home-grown passenger car – the Indica – in 1998. Ten years later, in 2008, Tata gave the country the world’s cheapest car, the Nano, priced at ₹1 lakh only.
Having established itself in the commercial vehicle space, Tata emerged as a favorite among the masses. Tata car models like the Sumo and Indica became the volume drivers. They witnessed huge demand from the cab and taxi businesses as well as the private car market. Later, the Safari also found its way into the hearts of the Indian elites. It quickly became the preferred vehicle for numerous government personnel and their motorcades.
